“I don’t think I’m good enough for that job?”
“I’m not the entrepreneur kind; I’ll definitely fail if I start my business.”
“I’ll definitely fail that test.”
We’ve all met people like this in our lives. I tend to refer to these people as the “negative bunch”.
They are always ready to look at the negative aspects of everything that is happening around them forgetting all the positive things around.
I was in that exact spot after I had an accident in 2004. I felt like everything had come to a standstill and I wouldn’t return to a meaningful and passionate life. Fast forward 13 years later and I’m doing one of my life passions.
The secret towards success and attaining change in our lives is by communicating positively to ourselves. Tony Robbins puts it quite well. He says that you should think of your inner self (mind, body and soul) as the ultimate garden. What you plant in the garden is exactly what you should expect to sow.
So how might you be able to communicate positivity to your inner self?
Here are three simple ways.
1. Look at your past successes
Do an internal review of yourself and look at all the successes that you’ve been able to achieve in your life. Be proud of each of those moments. Think about how scared you probably were when you were doing it and how you didn’t feel ready enough but you still managed to succeed in them. This will help you ignite a sense of positivity within you.
2. Focus on the wants, and wishes
Don’t look at the negative aspects, always concentrate on what you want to achieve. For example, if it’s a new business idea, don’t think about it failing. Instead, focus on the goals that you want to achieve. This will help you make better decisions.
3. Use positive words, or affirmations
Avoid the words can’t, don’t and maybe in your sentences. Always be positive about everything you communicate. However, don’t just use your words. Reinforce the feeling by making use of other non-verbal cues. For example, if you are unsure about doing something you can respond with a reassuring sentence like “I believe I can do it” together with a confident posture to go with it.
These three are some of my best kept secrets. They’ve helped me through some of my toughest situations and they will also help you start feeling positive about yourself in no time.
Stay positive everyone!
